The Virtue Center Earns National Accreditation
The Joint Commission awards its Gold Seal of Approval for mental health services.
NORMAN, OK - The Virtue Center announced today that it has been accredited by The Joint Commission, the oldest and largest healthcare standards-setting and accrediting body in the U.S
A new ability to serve more people
“We are pleased and proud to have this important accreditation, as it will enable us to serve more people in our community who need help and hope,” said Teresa Collado, executive director of The Virtue Center. “We are known for providing mental health services for people with a primary substance use disorder, but we have been limited in the mental health services we can provide to families impacted by their loved one’s disease. This accreditation will allow us to accept Medicaid and health insurance payments for stand-alone mental health services.”
National accreditation, endorsed at the state level
Accreditation by The Joint Commission is recognized and encouraged for health organizations by the State of Oklahoma, including the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, which last year was The Virtue Center’s largest single source of funding.
To earn and maintain The Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission, an organization undergoes an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. The Virtue Center is accredited in The Joint Commission’s category Behavioral Health Care and Human Services.
The Joint Commission, an independent, nonprofit organization, is governed by a 21-member Board of Commissioners that includes physicians, administrators, nurses, employers, quality experts, consumer advocates and educators. Offices are in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, and in Washington, D.C.
Expanding service in a welcoming new home
Accreditation comes just as The Virtue Center is getting established in its new building at 2457 Wilcox Drive in Norman, the product of a multi-year, $4.3 million campaign to fund, design, build and furnish this newest community asset.
It is a welcoming and therapeutic environment, designed to promote healing for teens, adults, and families. Near I-35 and Lindsey Street, the new building provides increased visibility and easy access. It is intended to be a true asset to central Oklahoma, with spaces for staff and community partners to work more collaboratively.
